Business owners often struggle with two things – management of their team and leadership. These are the two things that are constantly moving and always changing based on the time and the people that you have working with you. A major factor in these two aspects of business ownership is your ability to make decisions or, for that matter, your lack of decision making.
Making a decision to hire or fire someone, or not making a decision to hire or fire someone, can have huge implications for your business! Quick decisions on smaller to medium things are always preferred as this will allow you to move quickly and onto the next thing. This also doesn’t hold up your employees who follow your lead. In terms of bigger decisions, you don’t necessarily need to be quick but don’t be slow – again, this holds up the whole team. Get advice, ask questions when needed, and make the best decision you can in order to move on.
Remember, it’s about moving your company forward, not crippling it with indecision – when the best decisions are left unmade and the worst decisions are made after taking up too much time. Your decisions drive your company forward or backward. If a customer is treated poorly and you wait on a decision to help or correct the situation, you have essentially made your decision that you do not believe in customer service at all. Make the quick decision to refund their money, help them, or move on from the mistake. Do not overthink the situation or waste more time than necessary, get wise counsel and move on.
As I’ve said in an earlier blog post, speed wins and the faster you make a decision, the faster you will move your company forward!
